HOW IT WORKS, INGREDIENT BY INGREDIENT
🌿 Galega – the milk plant (750 mg, standardised to 2% flavones)
Galega officinalis, “goat's rue”, has been used for centuries in Europe to support milk production: its name comes from the Greek gala, milk. In the Italian Ministry list of botanicals it supports the galactagogue function, fluid drainage and carbohydrate metabolism. Clinical research is still limited: a 2013 systematic review says so clearly [1]; two Italian studies assessed a galega-based supplement in breastfeeding mothers, including mothers of preterm infants [2][3]. We choose it as a standardised extract, 15 mg of flavones per dose, so the dose is the same every day.
🌿 Saffron – the mood spice (3 mg, standardised to 3.5%)
The hand-picked stigmas of Crocus sativus are in the Italian Ministry list for normal mood, digestive function and countering menstrual cycle discomforts. Lepticrosalides (crocins and safranal) are the studied fraction: a 2019 meta-analysis pooled the clinical studies on saffron and mood [4], and a 2017 randomised study assessed it in new mothers [5]. The baby blues of the first days is a physiological phase; if low mood persists or becomes intense, it's time to talk to a doctor, not to a supplement.
🌿 Soy isoflavones (79.2 mg from 198 mg of extract)
Genistein and daidzein, the phytoestrogens of soy, are in the Italian Ministry list for lipid metabolism: they complete the formula in the months when the body finds its balance again. Dose below the Ministry limit of 80 mg.
🌿 Organic Moringa Oleifera – the RedMoringa signature (450 mg)
Leaf powder from certified organic farming, packed in Italy: it supports digestive function and lipid metabolism. In West Africa and India moringa leaves are traditionally cooked for new mothers: here you get 450 mg per dose, the highest amount in our range.
Scientific background
Galega and saffron have a long tradition and recent clinical research. Here is what the available studies report:
- Galega and lactation — a 2013 systematic review of herbal galactagogues concludes that evidence is still limited and of variable quality [1]; a 2017 Italian study described the use of a Galega officinalis-based supplement in breastfeeding mothers [2] and a 2018 study assessed its long-term efficacy in mothers of preterm infants [3].
- Saffron and mood — a 2019 meta-analysis pooled the clinical studies on saffron in mild-to-moderate low mood [4]; a 2017 randomised double-blind study assessed saffron in new mothers with mild-to-moderate low mood [5].
- Timing — studies last 4 to 12 weeks: one bottle a month for the months of breastfeeding.
These are studies on limited groups and with extracts different from ours: they describe what was observed and do not promise a result to those who use the product. Supplement for adults. Do not take during pregnancy. While breastfeeding, as with any supplement, talk to your paediatrician or midwife.
