What causes hair loss?

Hair loss rarely has a single cause. The most common ones are seasonal change (shedding more than usual in autumn and spring is perfectly normal), prolonged stress, deficiencies in iron, zinc, biotin and sulphur amino acids, hormonal shifts (postpartum, menopause, thyroid) and external factors such as pollution, heat and harsh chemical treatments. Hair is born in the follicle and is fed through the bloodstream: the health of your hair depends as much on what you eat as on what you use in the shower. If shedding is sudden, patchy or has lasted more than three months, see a dermatologist.

Do hair supplements really work against hair loss?

They do when shedding is linked to a nutrient shortfall or a stressful period, which are the most frequent cases. Zinc and biotin contribute to the maintenance of normal hair, while L-cystine and L-methionine are the amino acids your body uses to build keratin, the protein hair is made of. The RedMoringa Hair Supplement combines them with Horsetail standardised to 10% silica, Millet, Copper, Vitamin C and Organic Moringa. On their own, though, they’re not enough: the hair growth cycle is slow, so you need consistency (at least 2–3 months) and external care that protects the fibre while the new hair grows. What is the best supplement for hair loss in women?

The one that addresses the typically female causes: hormonal fluctuations, low iron, periods of intense stress. In women, shedding is usually diffuse (less volume, a thinner ponytail) rather than localised. A good supplement should therefore contain biotin and zinc (maintenance of normal hair), organic silicon from Horsetail for the structure of the fibre, and sulphur amino acids for keratin. Be wary of formulas with nothing but vitamins in minimal doses: what counts is standardisation, not the length of the ingredient list. How long before I see results on hair loss and growth?

It depends on what you’re looking at. Softness, shine and fewer broken hairs in your brush show up within the first few weeks, because conditioner and mask act on the fibre straight away. A reduction in shedding takes longer: the follicle needs around 2–3 months to move from its resting phase into active growth, so the first new hairs (the short, fine ones along the hairline) usually appear from the third month. That’s why we recommend following the IN&OUT treatment for at least 3 consecutive months, ideally around seasonal changes.
